What is Matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder with over 800 years of Japanese tradition. Unlike regular tea, the whole leaf is ground — preserving all its nutrients, antioxidants and the unique combination of natural caffeine and L-Theanine that gives you calm, focused energy without the jitters of coffee.

Our Matcha Grades.

Not all matcha is equal. Grade is determined by the type of leaf selected — colour, aroma, texture, flavour and umami depth. The finest grades come from shade-grown Tencha leaves, stone-milled to preserve their vibrant emerald green, silky texture and that distinctive deep umami that sets ceremonial matcha apart.

This is how we grade ours:

Supreme Ceremonial: Our highest grade. Made exclusively from the finest first-harvest leaves — the most prized pick of the season. Deep, complex umami, brilliant emerald green and an exceptionally silky texture. Best enjoyed prepared traditionally with hot water.

Ceremonial: Crafted from first-harvest leaves, delivering that vibrant green and smooth umami that defines a truly great cup. Perfect for traditional preparation and high-quality matcha lattes.

Traditional: A versatile everyday matcha combining first and second-harvest leaves. Consistent flavour, good colour and ideal for lattes, smoothies and culinary recipes where quality meets practicality.

The Matcha Stroke Test.

Since "matcha" is not a protected term, many low-quality, industrially processed teas are misleadingly sold as matcha. A simple "stroke test" can help identify authentic matcha:

1. Place a small amount of matcha powder on a dry surface.

2. Use your finger to gently swipe the powder.

3. Authentic matcha will spread smoothly and create a soft, even stroke.

4. Fake matcha will appear grainy and uneven, indicating a coarser grind.
